A holiday in Lamu
is a vacation for the heart.
It all begins with the warm air caressing your face when you step out of the small airplane at Lamu airport. Rich colours, pristine nature, traditional cuisine and the magic of the ancient Swahili culture are but a few highlights our team is specialized in showing you.
The main islands of Lamu, Manda, Manda Toto, Pate, and Kiwayu are surrounded by countless smaller and often nameless islets. The coral reefs and the vast mangrove forests are one of our planets last unspoilt ecosystems. Here, time has a different meaning.
Beach Tower House is the last and most gracefully situated house on Manda island (towards Ras Kitao) just across the world famous Peponi Hotel, privy to the most pristine and longest sunsets.
Manda island is situated opposite to Shela village, a 20min swim or 5min boat ride away. Our private captain will gladly assist you in both. At times, even elephants are seen crossing this narrow channel.
At the far end of Manda lies the idyllic island of Manda Toto, featuring vibrant coral reefs, buzzing with life in all forms and shapes. Ideal for fishing, diving and snorkeling.
Lamu island is the most famous in the archipelago and is entirely made up of sand dunes and thousands of coconut palm trees. There are no cars but another more climate friendly way of transport: donkeys!
In the western part of the island, the settlement of Matondoni is known as a centre of traditional dhow making. Kipungani village on the other hand, is located in the southwest of the island and offers another beautiful beach and an unspoiled natural habitat.
Pate island, northeast of Lamu and Manda, is the biggest island in the Lamu archipelago. Here, impressive ruins remind us of long foregone ancient ways of life.
